Svoboda Means Freedom

This piece was part of a solo exhibition at the Main Art Gallery of the American University of Paris, France. The subject is the arrest and years long imprisonment of the female members of the Russian Punk Rock Band Pussy Riot. They were arrested on made up charges of indecency because Vladimir Putin they were mocking his power with humor. That is in fact correct. The exhibit, called PUSSY GRABS BACK! is about the eternal struggle for freedom in societies whose democratic institutions and human rights are deteriorating. In this case the rallying call FREE PUSSY RIOT, calling for the release of the members of the band, was ultimately successful after years of worldwide protest. All of the women are now free and residing outside of Russia.
