The painting 'More, Misty Moor' was inspired by my time working in Bath, England in the winter when I would take my walks as per habit just after Dawn. Often I would go to the same places I went to in the Spring or in the Summer. I always was amazed at how different the places looked each time I visited. Depending on the season and time of day, they were transformed utterly. A simple matter of humidity and foliage or lack thereof. In this case, I found the brown and vaguely ocher quality of the brush in the winter almost as beautiful as in the spring. Perhaps more beautiful, I'm not sure I usually like to work with mixed media when I paint such things, but this time I kept it very loose and just worked with acrylics and basic gel media. I kept the paint very juicy and wet, and let it sit on the canvas and simply spread to every edge. After a little while, when it was wet but not quite so fluid, I would then layer more paint over the first. I just played with my fingers and my nails with the surface of the paint. As it started to dry, I would put a layer of thin gel, matte acrylic media generously over the whole surface. Then I would leave for a few hours, or days. Then, when it completely dried after a fewdays, the process would begin again and I would layer some very juicy paint in stripes wherever the spirit moved me. I would move my hands through it let it dry mostly then add a layer of acrylic gel sealant. AND then let it sit again. After a few days or a week I would come back and think about what it felt like to be on that chilly, misty, dank Moor at dawn. And it felt strangely refreshing and even more beautiful each time just to play with the colors and sense of mood and texture.
