Introducing “Stoop Dog (Acrylic on 12x16 canvas)”, part of my ongoing “Tourists” series. Dogs in Hinduism are revered as manifestations of Shiva and worshipped as guardian spirits. We lost our dog Julian earlier this year. When we rescued him six years ago, I weighed 40 lbs more, ate erratically, had bad sleeping patterns and had absolutely no distinction between work and life. All that changed in 2020. I had to wake up much earlier to walk him, which led to having more time in the mornings to work out which led to getting back in shape and learning the importance of prioritization and the impact of discipline. Caring for a dog dealing with a history of abuse, trauma, separation anxiety and a high prey drive also taught us the importance of patience. The fluorescent colors used in this painting have a distinct glow under black lights.
