Fear Forest

Mediums Acrylic, Pastel, matte gel media Materials Canvas, Found Objects, Paper Styles Abstract Expressionism, Conceptual, Contemporary, Other Keywords Intrigue, nature, forest, fear, layers, mystery Description This work was inspired by living for six years in an uninsulated old log cabin on a mountain in Tennessee on 6 acres of forest. The woods seemed to beckon in the spring but became menacing in the winter. One day when I went for a walk on my property, trudging through leaves and muck down hill on the mountain, I heard a terrible piercing noise. I was shocked by by the sound of deafening rifle shots. They were close enough to create tintinnitis. Yet from where the bullets came, I could not tell. Terrified, I scrambled up the hill and I sprinted home. I hope viewers will feel some empathy with the sense of cold dread and disturbing mystery. I found the box and other small items to glue onto the canvas to create a sense of both familarity and fear. The landscape is abstracted just as the forest is on a steep hill at dusk.
