"PUSSY PLANET" Artwork Daniel Aaron Schwartz Mixed Media, Acrylic on Canvas This work was inspired by the positive, powerful movement that the Russian women of PUSSY RIOT created with their music, their costumes and performances. Their art itself was a form of protest and courage. I hope viewers will enjoy the fascinating vibe of determination that this group of ladies and the FREE PUSSY RIOT movement created. I awanted to use random Graffiti and Posters and photos to suggest underlying hopes. Both a sense of a reminder if not a rallying cry. Not Washington Crossing the Potomac, as if I even could... No, I chose to paint this like it was the continents of different panels separatly. Then I glued them to the canvas, in the way you would smack a protest poster on onto someone elses billboard. Added with pens. tearing and abrading...subtley? Effects of some weather, aging of paper and other materials. I used the thicker Craft glue for the heavy and bulky items. Then Mod Modge, toss some acrylic beads directly onto the thick layer of glue. Then rusty paper clip, beads, glitter, magazine cut outs. More Mod Podge. While everything is still wet or at least tackey move the major objects around on the canvas. Arrange them haphazardly, even mindlessly at first. Then finalize the positions at least lock in the major defining items or objects by slathering them in clear drying matte sealant glue. Try for some small layer of ...obvious, emphatic visual shouting. Or at least, arguing. Reveal the core in some powerful way. Tattered. tortured in a gulag. But always full of hope. And determination.
