A free nation and its people are attacked and invaded for more than 4 years for reasons that are both obscure and absurd. The people of Ukraine have stood firm and proud. I am struck by their strength and resilience in the face of constant, unexpected murder and destruction. I wanted to paint the few seconds just before a missile strikes. My wish is that viewers can enjoy this as a celebration of color and lines and then once more when they know what it represents. I used markers, crayons and acrylic to create a lattice of quotidien life in a town without getting overly graphic or grisly.
