It is always like dejà vu all over again, in the immortal words of the great and wise Yogi Bera. In the world of the dream the light has evolved over the decades it has recurred. When I was a teenager, the dream was dark, murky and full of dread. Yet over the last 40 years or so the atmosphere in the dream feels lighter, almost bouyant and ebullient. I think that the dream was one of my very first lucid dreams. That is to say that when I am having the dream I have always been aware in the dream state, that I was in fact dreaming! And over the years I have come to accept my sense of bewilderment and even find humor in it, and joy. I hope viewers will see the positive side here of being in a slightly addled state of mind. Its ok and confusion may even be part of the process of self-examination, ultimately resulypting in greater clarity. We have all been Bewildered Bertha at some time. I have learned that loving ourselves when we are not feeling sharp, lucid or 'up to speed' is a great thing. I chose to use plastic gemstones intended for children’s play in the piece to frame the subject. Also glitter, acrylic marking pens and layers of matte, sticky craft gel. This glues everything in place and also grounds the materials and structure with a sense of depth and texture.
