I wanted to let the painting decide what it wanted to be. So instead of setting out with any specific goal, I worked on separate composite fiberboard panels. I simply doodled away while I was work during zoom meetings and telephone calls. My only conscious choice was in the color palette, and I mostly work with acrylic paint pens. I found myself drawn to a palette of red hues. After working sporadically on the piece for several months as I unconsciously filled sevral small canvas panels. I realized i had more than enough to put them together. mount them on a larger canvas and see what happened! I ended up having many more extra mini panels than I needed so I enjoyed the luxury of choosing which ones seem to belong together, arranging them in different ways on a larger canvas. So I put them together and then looked at it. Sealed the canvas, looked some more and decided to tweak the edges of several of the panels so they flowed better into each other. And the overall look at the end was surprsing. I saw a distinct road in an S pattern casually arcing through a surreal landscape. Then I glued each panel individually to the underlying canvas and used binder clips to keep it fixed to the canvas and flat until it dried. What do you see in the painting? It might not be a red road at all! I want to knowyour impressions. My hope is that viewers will discover some of the joy I did in the piece. I chose this style as a way to free my mind and spirit to doodle and play with colors, shapes and designs.
