I wanted to create a mixed media Collage with the head and face being the main focus of the artwork, and this was actually a block print originally and I decided to add paper collage pieces and botanical collage elements that would depict the mood and story of the piece. The collage fragments are symbolic of a racing mind, ideas and images of thoughts or memories in the head. The vivid colours are positive and bursting with life but also indicate busyness and some discord. I painted gold leaf in smaller areas to add a sheen and contrast against the bold colours. Chinese Hanzi or words hint at political and world chaos or power struggles. The collage eyes are looking sideways at a possible threat within a colourful visage.
