This piece was inspired by my reading too many books about Bigfoot as a child. Not to mention producing way too many documentaries about bigfoot, the abominable snowmen and other mythic (?) beings. Wendigos are a mythical race of large creatures similar to Giant Neanderthals and related to Bigfoot. Many North American Aboriginal tribes (Indians) share a rich oral history of these people (?) dating back thousands of years! I'm sharing Wendigo Women, a piece where rows of simplified faces and small abstract marks move across stacked bands of color. Pale ochres, rusted browns, and dusky violets give it a quiet warmth. Some faces read like quick sketches while others sit tas layered, mask-like shapes, and the repeated eyes and mouths set up a steady rhythm that feels both playful and wistful. Minimal marks along the top read like a private script and add a subtle sense of story. The piece us in my collection of works listed as "Dreams." Which face pulls you in?
