I picked up a small metal box on one of my dusk strolls in the forest. It’s compact, hinged, topped with a thin U-shaped handle and a scuffed brass latch with a tiny keyhole. Layers of color and worn metal give it a tactile, worked feel: an earthy brown base with soft pink flecks and pale green and cream bands that wind across the lid in an improvised lattice.
