Persistence explores our remarkable ability to keep moving forward, even when life's storms gather on the horizon. Inspired by the resilience of the human spirit, the painting contrasts the urgency of an approaching tornado with the carefree innocence of a young girl, happily jumping rope as though nothing can diminish her joy. The juxtaposition invites viewers to consider two ways of facing adversity. One figure runs from the storm, while the other remains focused on the simple rhythm of the moment. Neither response is right or wrong, but together they remind us that courage often comes from choosing hope over fear. Like much of my work, Persistence blends realism with a touch of whimsy, encouraging viewers to look beyond the obvious and discover their own meaning. For me, the painting is a celebration of resilience, optimism, and the enduring belief that even when the skies darken, our spirit has the power to carry us forward.
