during the 16-years I lived in Los Angeles, I yearned to make a lot of money. I never did. However, I did survive and thrive in many ways. My ultimate dream was to have a house in the Hollywood Hills or better yet, in Pacific Palisades. It was a fantasy that never came true. But whenever I would drive through Pacific Palisades on Sunset Boulevard for some work assignment or to see friends, the wish came alive again in full force. During the unprecedented wildfires that engulfed the city two years ago, I was struck by the sheer insurmountabke power of the conflagration. Simply beyond words! I could not imagine what it be what it would be like to flee my home in the middle of the night with a wall of heat, fire and smoke on my heels. What would it be like for everything I owned to turn to ashes? I also was upset and horrified for my friends who still lived in LA. During this time, I never felt Schadenfreude for my extremely successful rich whose homes were destroyed. however, in a couple cases, I did mean that they sort of got their comeuppance for their arrogance and dismissiveness towards me. Mostly I was grateful that I didn't live there anymore. poached Pacific Palisades is a piece that is composed of 18 layers of successive paint dousing. I wanted to soak the canvas in metaphoric gasoline. I worked on it af different times and of intentional used different consistencies of paint and colors. The paint was watered down a great deal and I utilized a lot of acrylic flow release to get the colors to blend and bleed. I also use several layers of cellophane in order to crinkle and crack and create a random quality of destruction. Between each round of paint and cellophane, I always let the piece dry for a few days dry. I also doodled on the canvas with acrylic paint pens to augment the effect of disaster, fear and fire.
