Red Hills, Georgia

Red Hills Georgia is an abstract landscape that is clearly not meant as a figurative depiction of the Red Hills in Georgia. Rather an amalgam of the way the hills make me feel. During the 10 years in Knoxville, TN, I was a supervising executive on several home improvement and DIY series, including DIY to the Rescue, which I helped create, budget and cast during the first three months when I first moved to TN and went to work at RIVR media. The series shot several hundred episodes over the next 5 years, in almost every US state. However, we shot about 40% of the episodes states adjacent to Tennessee because I wanted to save money and increase profit margins. So we did the drive to various parts of Georgia more times than I can count. I loved seeing the hills from the car and found the majestic beauty of the landscape soothing. When I think on those years and all the before and after shots of renovations, what stays with me is something beyond the literal. Even more than all my design choices, or the grueling labor that others did, while I tried to be a good leader, it was the people that I remember. People who trusted me to transform their homes and welcomed 25 assorted crew members, contractors and producers into their homes. That warm trust is what this painting is really about. It is not a painting of an outer landscape, rather a landscape of the heart.
