I read an interview with David where he said one of his greatest creative is to intentionally play instruments and use tools incorrectly. This is grist to my treadmill of life! As someone who struggles to follow the simplest directions, knowing it is okay to do things incorrectly is reassuring. I was attempting to deploy a pouring medium to get all those amazing effects you see artists doing in Youtube Videos. Of course it went awry and that is what creating the melting effect in the painting. A happy coincidence because I was trying to do an abstract piece about the insane heatwaves we have been having here. It is so hot that I feel that my brain is melting when I go outside. There was a Twilight Zone episode that I often think of. In it, the planet earth has shifted its orbit and is being drawn closer and closer to the sun. It is so hot that while the artist protagonist is painting, the paint begins to melt and the whole picture deliquesces onto the floor! So after doodling with acrylic and oil paint pens for weeks off and on sporadically, I had created a lopsided, wobbly looking city. Then when I attempt to work in the pouring medium technique, whole sections of the artwork simply melted like hot butter off the canvas! When I finally was able to go back and look at the results I was stupefied. I had inadvertantly created the Magic Melting Metropolis I originally set out to create.
