FLOATING CITY was inspired by all the science-fictions I have enjoyed that feature floating cities, towns and habitats. In particular I love the film, Silent Runnings, starring Bruce Dern as a botanist in charge of a giant space ship full of all of the plants and trees on earth, that have already or facing imminent destruction. The Bruce Dern character learns that due to budget cuts, he is to abandon the habitat and return to earth. Instead he goes loco and preserves the habitat and severs contact with his bosses. This town is not in space but it is also not in earth. I painted an alien atmosphere of cobalt and other blues, then used acrylic paint pens to fancifully create the neon levitating metropolis.
