Shaft of Hope

This piece is inspired by the desire to shift from way of thinking or emotional and another. It is not compare or judge nearly to see other possibilities. I used individual canvases to create a composite, and then I layered buttons jar, tops, discarded bowls, tiny bubbles, and other objects onto it. Even a piece of shoelace. I arrange these items in such a way as to conjure a pleasant environment, but perhaps one that could become a little monotonous. Even blank has its limits. I'm very attracted to buttons and anything that is iridescent or adolescent. I don't know why but these items remind me of my grandmother and the house I grew up in. Perhaps this has to do with the fact that for example, the door knobs in our house were crystal and I always thought that was kind of neat. Also, I always love wearing shirts that either have per lesson buttons or snap buttons. I am very attracted to bright and shiny objects. I feel like in many ways I'm a magpie in the sense that I find things that attract me for purely aesthetic reasons and then I collect them. When I'm creating a piece like this, I'm thinking about a specific emotion or an image that I had in a dream. In this case, VMH had to deal with floating and flying and basically looking down at lots of little stuff as though I was floating over a beautiful beach that was full of little treasures Often in these dreams I feel like they're going on forever and I'm just floating and kind of keeping myself levitating. It's all very pleasant, but eventually I want to escape into another place. in my life, I have always found it difficult to shift gears if you will and move from one activity to another. So, using children's ink stamping seals, a kind of alternate portal. That is teh brightly colored shaft in the middle that represents an escape another emotional and mental state.
