When Blue Becomes a Territory I

The work is inspired by Serra da Estrela—not as a landscape to depict, but as a geological system. Its granite, water, sediments and erosion inform my materials and process. Blue is explored as a responsive field shaped by light, density, scale, distance and movement. I do not prescribe a single response. I hope viewers slow down, move around the work and notice how its surface changes with light and position. It may evoke depth, silence or transformation while prompting reflection on how matter can hold time, memory and territory. Abstraction allows me to translate geological processes without illustrating mountains or rivers. Acrylics, gesso, cotton, sand and mineral sediments enable absorption, flow, sedimentation, abrasion and exposure. Layering records transformation, while scale connects the painting to the viewer’s body and architecture.
