Hello, I'm Dr Michelle Cox-Hurrell.

Dr Michelle Cox-Hurrell is a visual artist with a lifelong love of light, colour, and curiosity. Born in the vibrant swirl of the 1970s, she grew up in Australia surrounded by the playful energy of Muppets, bold fashion, and the optimism of the era. Her childhood was shaped by inspiring art teachers who nurtured her imagination from primary school through high school, planting the seeds of a creative life. As a first-generation Australian, her heritage is steeped in stories. Her parents emigrated from Ireland and Britain in the 1960s—her mother was a ten-pound Pom from a long line of seamstresses, and her father descended from Irish carriage makers. She carries their legacy in her hands: craftsmanship, resilience, and an adventurous spirit. She trained in traditional painting and drawing at Julian Ashton’s Art School, and later explored conceptual art and sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts (SCA). The SCA campus in Rozelle, Sydney, was nestled in a historic 19th-century building that felt like a sanctuary for creative minds. Her journey has been anything but linear, but every twist has added depth to her practice. She sees art as a way to connect disciplines, history, cultures, and emotions—a lens through which to explore light, memory, and the quiet magic of everyday life. In 2023 Michelle was part of the Dear Agnes Project in Melbourne, exhibiting an art installation of flower sculptures. In 2025 Michelle exhibited her work at ART3F Monaco, Art Munich with Monat Gallery, exhibiting at their gallery in Madrid too. Earlier in 2026, Michelle exhibited her work as part of a display in Times Square, with Plogix Gallery and the Artemida Art Expo in Milan. She has upcoming shows in 2026 with Artio Gallery at the Women in Art Exhibition (Chelsea) and has been selected for the Florence Biennale in 2027.
