Ashlee Gillespie is a Northern California native whose artistic practice is deeply rooted in the coastal landscapes of her youth and the evolving terrain of the Napa Valley, where she has lived and worked for the past two decades. A professional artist for 15 years, Gillespie has developed a specialized practice focused exclusively on the technical and expressive possibilities of watercolor. Her career is underpinned by a profound technical knowledge of materials. Immersed in the art supply industry since 2005, she co-owned and operated the Napa-based retail studio, Color Theory, from 2019 to 2024. This two decade-long submergence in the "world of art supplies" allowed her to serve as a consultant and resource for fellow artists while refining her own expertise in pigment behavior and archival standards. Gillespie’s work is held in private collections globally, from Hawaii to Germany, and she is a frequent collaborator for top international design firms. Her commissions and licensed works are featured in premier hospitality and healing environments, including Marriott properties, Harvey’s Lake Tahoe, luxury cruise ships, and various children’s hospitals.
