Ali d'Argento
Ali d’Argento is part of the PASSAGE series, a body of work exploring movement, transformation, identity, and the emotional meaning of crossing from one stage of life into another. Throughout this series, journeys are not represented simply as physical displacement, but as personal passages that shape who we become. This work reflects the moment when the dream of aviation became reality. At the center of the painting, the silver MB-339 aircraft emerges like a memory shaped by discipline, training, and sky. It recalls my years of flight training, my time at the Italian Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli, and the period spent at the Flight School in Lecce, where aspiration gradually became action and identity began to take form through movement, precision, responsibility, and commitment. The geometry and colors of the Italian flag form the structure of the composition, evoking heritage, identity, and the invisible architecture that shapes who we become. The tricolor does not function simply as a national symbol; it represents origins and the foundation from which every journey begins. It becomes the visual space from which flight emerges, connecting personal history with collective identity. I chose a symbolic and expressive visual language because I did not want to portray the aircraft simply as a machine, but as a threshold. Flight here is not only about altitude; it is about becoming. The black fragments integrated into the composition represent the invisible dimension behind achievement. While the aircraft symbolizes aspiration and realized dreams, these darker elements embody the unseen aspects of every journey: discipline, sacrifice, long periods of preparation, uncertainty, and the responsibilities carried along the way. People often see the result, but rarely the process that made it possible. These fragments become the hidden structure supporting the wings themselves, reminding us that every accomplishment is built upon experiences that remain unseen. As a former military pilot, aviation has always represented more than movement through physical space. Flying introduced a different perception of distance, responsibility, and perspective itself. Some journeys transform us not because of where they lead, but because of who we become while traveling through them. Through acrylic, pouring techniques, and layered textures, I wanted to create a surface where memory and movement coexist. The aircraft remains suspended between personal history and universal symbolism, inviting viewers to reflect on their own passages, ambitions, and moments of transformation. Through Ali d’Argento, I hope viewers recognize something beyond aviation itself: the moment in life when a dream stops being imagined and becomes part of who we are.
