Napoli dell'addio

Napoli dell'Addio is part of the PASSAGE series, a body of work exploring movement, transformation, identity, and the emotional meaning of crossing from one stage of life into another. Throughout this series, journeys are not represented simply as physical displacement, but as passages capable of reshaping memory and redefining who we become. This work reflects the emotional complexity of departure and the invisible weight carried by places that become part of our identity. Rather than portraying Naples through a literal landscape, I wanted to translate into visual language the feeling that exists in the moment of saying goodbye a space suspended between nostalgia, uncertainty, gratitude, and hope. At the center of the composition, the silhouette of Mount Vesuvius emerges against the horizon. More than a geographical reference, Vesuvius becomes a symbol of permanence and origin. Certain places continue to exist within us long after we leave them. They remain fixed within memory even while life moves forward. The sea dominates the foreground and becomes more than a physical element. Within the work it represents distance, transition, and passage itself. Water separates worlds, but it also connects them. Every departure carries a paradox: we move away from something while simultaneously moving toward something else. The horizon becomes a symbolic threshold between certainty and possibility. It represents the unknown dimension present within every transition the place where endings and beginnings coexist. The movement of the sky and sea was intentionally created through expressive brushwork rather than precise representation. I did not want static forms or photographic realism. I wanted the landscape to feel like memory itself. Some memories remain vivid and sharp, while others gradually soften and dissolve with time. The flowing movement across the composition creates an atmosphere where emotions appear suspended, almost as if recollections were surfacing and fading simultaneously. Through Napoli dell'Addio, I hope viewers recognize a feeling that extends beyond geography: the experience of leaving behind a place that remains part of who we are, even after the journey continues.
