Rhythm of S is a monumental, one-of-a-kind mixed-media sculpture created from smoked oak and more than 3,000 individually hand-cut slices of recycled wine corks. The naturally curved form of the oak determines the direction and movement of the composition. Rather than concealing the character of the wood, I preserve its grain, irregularities, and original contours as an essential part of the artwork. Thousands of cork slices are arranged by hand in multiple layers, creating a tactile relief with depth, rhythm, and constantly changing shadows. The selected cork slices carry recurring S-shaped motifs on their surfaces. Through repetition, a single symbol develops into a flowing visual language that follows the natural movement of the wood. From a distance, the individual fragments merge into a continuous rhythm. Viewed more closely, every cork remains distinct and preserves its own color, structure, markings, and history. The work explores repetition, movement, memory, time, and the relationship between individuality and collective form. The recycled wine corks retain traces of cultivation, wine culture, previous use, and human contact, while the smoked oak carries the visible history of natural growth. Rhythm of S was handcrafted in Aachen, Germany. The unique sculpture can be presented as a freestanding object or displayed on a wall with an appropriate professional mounting system.
