Izithunywa ZikaMoya (Messengers of the Spirit) is a meditation on spiritual communication and the unseen intelligences that accompany human consciousness throughout life. Rooted in African spiritual philosophy, the work reflects on the presence of Izithunywa Zikamoya the spiritual messengers who reveal themselves through dreams, intuition, sudden moments of clarity, symbols, and profound inner knowing. They are the silent guides that invite us into deeper relationship with ourselves, our ancestors, and the divine intelligence that permeates existence. The composition presents the body as a sacred vessel through which these messages are received. The ascending sequence of energy centres represents the continual elevation of consciousness, tracing the journey from grounded existence toward expanded spiritual awareness. The dominant red field, associated with the root center, establishes the work within the realm of foundation, survival, ancestry, belonging, and the life force itself. Psychologically, red evokes vitality, courage, presence, and the primal energy required to remain fully rooted while opening oneself to higher frequencies of perception. Spiritual awakening, the work suggests, begins not by escaping the body, but by inhabiting it completely. The fish, a recurring visual icon throughout my practice, ascends toward the higher centres of the body, symbolising the movement of wisdom from the depths of the unconscious into awakened consciousness. It embodies revelation, ancestral guidance, and the continuous flow between the visible and invisible worlds. Rather than existing as an external symbol alone, the fish becomes a visual language through which spiritual knowledge travels, reminding us that transformation begins with attentive listening. Izithunywa ZikaMoya ultimately invites viewers to recognise that the sacred inner voice is rarely loud. It often arrives as a dream, an unexpected idea, an intuitive impulse, or a quiet certainty that redirects one’s path. The work is both an offering and a reminder that when we cultivate stillness, the messengers of the spirit are always speaking, guiding us toward greater alignment, purpose, and wholeness.
