A Small Opening was the title of an episode of the comedy series ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS, starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. I worked on this piece artwork sporadically over several months while rewatching the series in chronological order. In addition to being amazeballs, gutwrenching funny, it has heart. I got so much laughter and joy in my heart whenever I watch them. In addition to being the funniest and sickest show (in the good sense) EVER, I am sad there are not more episodes being filmed. The piece is composed of 12 separate, identical canvas boards. I worked on each panel separately. I was just enjoying the show night after night again. I was seeing a shimmery, silver Retro 1980's wallpaper. Bathroom wallpaper. A bit sparkly bling-ish design. Each of the 12 canvas were unplanned pieces. I actually painted 16 or 17 canvas boards. When it came time to put them all together and glue them onto the canvas, none of the pictures made sense with the others. I tried out different arrangements. Then decided to 'cheat' and work on the canvas next to each other to workon with acrylic paint pens. Drew over the seams where the different boards joined up... Tried to knit them visually together. Materials, Resistance paint, to create 'subtle' iridescent effects. Acrylic, Oil and Ink paint markers. Acrylic matte gel, thin.
