Abandoned Factory, Hunting Park, Philadelphia is a piece inspired by my walks around the Kensington, Hunting Park and Old Richmond neighborhoods of Philadelphia. In these early twentieth-century, 19th and 18th century neighborhoods, tiny row homes are dwarfed by the hulking shadows of ancient abandoned factories. I wanted to capture a sense of loss, but also of rich, intricate meaning and loss. I arranged a constellation of circular wells and tiny found objects across layered fragments and geometric patterns. Warm rust and copper hold the center while magenta, lime, and turquoise pop around the edges. Torn edges and glossy bits catch light in different ways, so the eye keeps moving through small relics and marks that feel like a weathered map.
