A friend who lives in L.A me that the only result of this catastrophe that gave her joy were the startling, vivid Sunsets when it was all over. Beauty created by all the smoke still filling the air. I hope viewers will sense a bit of the almost surreal sadness in the beautiful Sunsets the disaster left in its wake. I used extremely watered down acrylic paint mixed with flow medium to create translucent layers of chromatic light. Then layers of cellophane I crinkled over the whole thing, taping the sides, finallt weighting the whole down with books to emphasize the impressions left by the Saran Wrap. I did 7 rounds of layering, letting the piece dry each time under the cellophane covering. Then, I removed the cellophane, washing the canvas in juicy watered down mauves, yellows and ochre. Again and again. Then covering it with cellophane, letting it dry and proceeding with successive adjustments and layers of paint. What feelings does AFTER THE FIRES evoke in you?
