I found it all mysterious, fascinating and mostly bewildering and even disturbing at times. I wanted to know what all these characters were really like as people. Usually the stories were more plot oriented and often violent and very obviously intended for didactic purposes. All the different stories and characters from the Old Testament would mingle and morph together in my dreams. And I spent a lot of time daydreaming in class. Actually most of my life then, and now, is spent in a somewhat insular, pondering state of mind. As an 8-14 year old, I remember being at home wandering around the house perusing the thousands of books in my dad's wide ranging collection. I enjoyed exploring because I always a book I had never noticed before. I craved absorption in other realities, lives, eras and places. And new stimulation. The wizards I dreamt of and recreated in this piece were wise but forbidding, mysterious and unpredictable. Not friendly or potential pals! I hope viewers will enjoy this piece as a whimsical rendering of childhood dream imagery. I chose to use heavy layers of acrylic paint sealed by matte gel medium after each coat. I layered in iridescent resisting colors under and above layers of dark color. I was never sure it would have the intended effect of evanecense and spectral, almost electromagnetic forces. I wanted the piece to reflect my sense of awe and numinous trepidation. Basically I was shooting for a shimmery, otherworldly quality.What do you make of it?
