This painting was inspired by the hundreds of hours I have spent in airplanes on long haul flights. One of my favorite things to as a break from working or watching movies is to simply stare out the window down at the clouds. This becomes a 20 minute open-eyed meditation as I focus on the small changes in cloud formations, and the shifting of color and light, especially as the sun rises or sets. 'Blue Orange Stripes' spans a 2 by four foot composition, kept as a simple abstract sequence of color. I worked without a plan so the process could help me move through some big, passionate, complex feelings.
