I love the soft colors of Phlox, Cosmos, Stock, Hydrangea and Lavendar. I grew all of the flowers from in a garden I had in Westchester, Los Angeles in the early 1990's👏🏼. Thus far and I hate to play favorites but this creation lives as my greatest horticultural achievement. I recalling this garden, I remember the excitement every morninf when I would what was blooming and what news buds had just opened. I spent at least two hours everyday in the garden. It was a magical time after I got fired from job as a Director of Development at a Production Company in West LA. The company made films like JAWS 3D. But mostly atrocious movies of the week. We called them MOWs. I was so happy the day I was fired that I went and started digging trenches in the backyard to create large flowerbed. Decades later, I wanted to recall those precious memories... piecemeal, to savor them. I recalled those happy times by doodling on different small canvas boards. After a few months of intermittant efforts, I had filled a couple dozen boards. I put all the little painted boards loosely on a large canvas and started arranging them experimentally to see how it all would best fit together. I always thought of the gossamer, evanscent experiences ali of my twenties as little bubbles and sometimes revelation. I worked on this piece with paint pens after priming all the little individuals with gesso so the boards would have 'teeth' to hold onto the painting that followed. Like all the best experiences, limited resources make for the most inventive solutions. I believe at that time I had limited paint pens and colors. So my decision to work in delicate pastel pinks and blues was less a conscious choice than a necessity.
