The markings made so many tens or even hundreds of thousands of years ago were so expressive and powerful. The cave also had drawings of animals the early homo sapiens had painted. Rather than attempting to copy or reproduce these images, I wanted to keep it abstract. To give a sense of presence and creative expression without doing it in a literal representational way. I hope viewers will enjoy the use of color and patina to express age, meaning and the first efforts if sentient beings (people) to create beauty. I did the painting on a red lacquered desktop I found and was excited and challenged to find a way to make the paint stick without sanding it too much.
