Deep Purple
I was inspired to paint DEEP PURPLE by my experience of the color purple. The Color Purple is the title of one of my all-time favorite books by Tony Morrison. It depicts the depth, the wealth of complex feeling and the pain and the hurt, but also the hidden joys of living your life and facing what comes with a few loved ones you have. Purple has always called me. There's just something about the pregnancy of purple, the richness of purple. Purple also has a kind of suction promise of something perhaps forbidden. at a certain point in my life, my favorite colors were red blue, and purple. I saved purple for very special things like the cover of my iPad, my keyboard on my Mac and select rare articles of clothing. The point is purple sustains me, and I don't know why when I sought out to make this painting I wondered what the feeling of purple would look like. I realized that purple to me is something that glitters that reflects but also that harbors deepness. I often feel as though all of my feelings are in little boxes. So when I found some little boxes in a dollar store, I pounced! Next, I really had no idea what I was gonna do next to be honest I decided to just absentmindedly paint what purple felt to me then I painted another layer then I even added some green and some copper and some other colors. Finally, I realized it was time. I covered the whole painting with archival art glue then I very liberally poured purple glitter over the whole thing. I don't think I have ever been as happy as in that moment after this ad dried I covered it with glitter again and let it dry. Then I covered it once more with glitter and let it dry. Finally, I got out my little boxes. I painted them all purple, several coats of purple and then individually cover them with glue and then glitter finally, I arrange the boxes on the canvas. We To me the piece obviously represents more than just a color. It deals with how we feel things inside and what we do with our emotions and thoughts: how we box them or unbox them. Ultimately this piece didn't start as a joyful painting, but it ended up as one that is one of my favorites and that constantly makes me smile.
