Heiroglyphic Self

Heiroglyphic Self is a meditation on the way we all speak in our own language and with our own symbols. There is an illusion or a delusion that we are communicating in the same language just because we're both speaking English. In fact, this could not be further from the truth. So, in making this painting, I wanted to explore the idea that language itself and communication is a completely made up construct. I use symbols that I either improvise made up or were takeoffs on my initials or Hebrew letters I remembered or actual hieroglyphs I had seen I used a color palette that is particularly comforting to me. Variations on gold, pink, bright sunshine, yellow, blue, cobalt, navy blue, charcoal. I used paint markers and tried not to overthink it. However, I did notice that I was following the ribbon of color that I had set out beforehand. So I guess in a way my hieroglyphic self likes to follow rules. What does your hieroglyphic self look like?
