Inside Istanbul

I probably should have called this Lost in Turkey. I have made a lifetime out of adventures getting completely lost. Istanbul is a metropolis I will never be able to navigate. However, it has the most fantastic entitled population of cats anywhere on earth. I wanted to capture both the ancient and modern interlocking complexity of this marvelous place that straddles two continents. I conceived the design as a series of enmeshed overlapping triangles. I tried to convey a sense of chaotic purpose. I principally used oil paint markers to outlinem fantasy buildings and boulevards. Its a crimson, yellow halogen lit universe of symbols, majestic mosques and mellifluous melodies. Flourescence and vivid color is i, harmony with shadows and secrets. Its a maze than spans aeons of time, religions and cultures. The repetitive geometry is meant to be both bewildering and visually engaging. East Meets West in the beating of this civilization.
