Jury of my Fears
Mediums: Acrylic, Gesso, Paint Marker, Pastel Materials: Canvas, Glue, Matte Sealant Styles: Abstract Expressionism, Expressionism, Folk, Outsider Art Keywords: GUILT, FACES, JUDGES, FRIENDS, FOES, HOPES, FEARS This work was inspired by how often I have guilt themed dreams. It used to bother me but once I started to create art about it, like this, it began to seem more amusing than upsetting. I hope viewers will realize that we are always judged not by our peers but more by our own fears. The secret to see the fears for the silly things they are and not give them power over us. I chose to lay down a base of gesso and acrylic so that anything else I added to it would bond more readily. Then I largely let my imagination go as I used markers and pastel to carefully weave patterns of ‘thought’ as well as the faces of my fears lined up in a row.
