Day in and day out, but most especially overnight, every night, normal civilians and families are targeted very specifically. Their apartments and schools, playgrounds and hospitals are bombed with Ballistic and other missiles, and of course with Kamikaze Shahed drones. I purposely did not emphasize a sense of futility, entrapment or tragic self-pity. Rather, I thought of the children I saw in Kyiv and other cities doing their homework calmly in their Pajamas in the subway tunnels. I felt a sense of their bravery, strength and perseverance. I hope viewers will find some stalwart beauty in the colors and textures of LIVING UNDERGROUND. I chose to work the medium of thick matte acrylic gel, and with iridescent, resistance paint and earth tones.
