During my vacation in Finland I visited National Parks to go mushroom tours. I learned so many amazing things about these conscious beings. Not 'merely' fungi, mushrooms are believed to possess thought. Scientists have recently proven that a single society or Colony of these Mycellia made up of thousands of individual separaye mushrooms are actually all connected physically. They are linked via their micro thin tendrils, --previously thought to be their roots. These are neuronic equivalents that can reach for miles and all together form a brain with billions of ever evolving connections. In fact the mushroom head that we see above the service is not their body at all, it is only their sexual organ! It is my hope that viewers of More Mycelium will feel both a sense of a sense of the profound hidden connections that have implications for us much greater than the world of Mushrooms. Similar connections make up our the neurons of human and animal brains. Where in that matrix of infinite webs of electric pulses do thoughts, hopes and ideas reside? I chose to work here with modelling paste, thick matte acrylic paints and gels, as well as interferecence (iridescent) gold, copper and umber chroma. These materials naturally reflect light, even when covered by other paints. What does More Mycelium make you imagine?
