This work is about the Donbas area of Ukraine. What must it feel like to live in such a beard attacked decimated region? I thought about this a lot and worse it has entered my unconscious. The fact of the matter is life is fragile. When we see a conflict like the one taking place in Ukraine, we know that life can be taken away from us in an instant. We realize that homes are merely tissue structures. We also realize that the day-to-day rhythms of our lives can be irrevocably destroyed. I tried to capture a feeling of night and tranquility with a touch of danger. I layered a textured environment, using yellows, reds greens, charcoal, deep embers, and black. I made the paint extremely viscous and thin, and then I put a layer of bubble wrap over it. More layers of bubble wrap after more coats of paint. Using acrylic paint markers, and sharpie pens I drew in the outlines of buildings and homes in towns and villages. I wanted to suggest the flimsiness of the structure as we build to keep us safe.
