Office Complex

As a child I always imagined it would be exciting to work in an office in a big building in Manhattan. When I became an adult and this glamorous fantasy came true, the thrill last around a decade. I never really loved feeling like a bee in a hive. When I would leave the office to go home, I would peer up into all the curtainless windows at all the busy bees still working away. Work at home was a life changer. This painting actually captures the first thrill office life. It is meant to evoke the dynamic energy and 24/7 quality of American industriousness. For me, I simply painted lines and then thought about how to convey all the people in the office complex. I imagined them as blurry silhouettes darting through high key, overliy spaces. I painted an abstract building grid, and washed it with layers of yellow, chartreuse and iridescent white and interference colors to reflect and enhance the light. I added lines of charcoal like a exoskeleton: the superstructure. Finally, I used paint pens to scribble in the people darting behind the walls of glasz
