At the time I was in Europe not very far from the plant exploded. At the time it was not clear how big a deal it was. Over years, I found myself reading more about and thinking about it. I hope viewers find some way to experience, if not enjoy my attempt to paint the emotional aftermath of those events, but not so much to feel horrified. Just to reflect on how nature both adapts and succumbs to the foibles of mankind. I used watered down paints to sketch the trees in stark black lines and added layers of glitter to create a sense of toxic clouds and spreading radioactive dust.
