Tranquilizing Chair

Photographed inside an abandoned hospital, this image features a tranquilizing chair once used to physically restrain patients during periods of distress. Positioned beneath deteriorating walls and decades of institutional decay, the chair serves as a powerful reminder of a complicated era in health treatment. Through black and white documentary photography and urban exploration, the image examines themes of memory, confinement, preservation, and the lasting history embedded within abandoned medical institutions. Part of an ongoing body of work documenting abandoned and historic locations through urban exploration (urbex) across New York and New Jersey. All prints are available in multiple sizes and mediums.
