Trinity of Triangles
I just love triangles. I've already waxed prolix about this. However, one can never describe in too much depth the things that we appreciate and love. There's something very powerful about a three sided shape. One of my therapists once told me that the triangle is a much more stable shape than any other. I really don't understand why this would be true, but I love that it is true. So one day, I was thinking about my favorite things in life. Things that I love to look, at the that give me joy, aesthetic qualities that I wish I had more of in my life. I live in a church, a very old church and that dates from the mid 19th century. The church has very unusual arced windows, and I really like them. The one thing the church I live in does not have a stain glass windows, at least not in my apartment So I decided to try and paint the way stained glass windows make me feel. I didn't want to paint a copy of a stained glass window and I didn't wanna go overboard on the colors. What I was trying to do is convey something about the warmth and special sacred quality of light that comes through a stained-glass window. I very lightly layered washed out watered down quinadrone cacrylic paints mixed with heavy doses of flow release. I let it kind of wash over the canvas. Then I let it dry. It looked pretty blah. So I used other color variations in successive very light washes: Ochre, Peach and yellow . This helped to texturize and develop a look. Next, I tried some Glass beaded gel medium as well to create a sort of a translucent texture. However, simply adding layers of acrylic matte medium after each coat of paint seemed to have just as nice an effect as the Glass beaded gel. So here's the thing --this is not necessarily a robust work of art. Nor is it a very important work of art. However, it's a piece that makes me feel good: maybe it'll bring pleasure to you as well.
