This painting was inspired by my fascination with the planet Venus. Venus is a hellish world with crushing air pressure 93 times Earth's level, surface temperatures blazing at 872°F (467°C) that melt lead, and thick, corrosive clouds of sulfuric acid. Other than that I heard it is a lovely place! NOT, Ha Ha. Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system—even hotter than Mercury. The atmosphere consists of 96.5% carbon dioxide with thick layers of sulfuric acid clouds. In this painting I was trying to depict ghe Eerie Lighting on Venus. Sunlight filtering through theatmosphere casts a dim, glowing orange tint across the barren grey rocks. If there could be life on Venus, what would it be like? Sulfuric acid green, yellow and copper skies! Mauve and Magenta tinged volcanic rocks as sharp as glass. Other amazing facts about Venus. Venus rotates in the opposite direction of most planets (retrograde rotation), meaning the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. One day on Venus lasts 117 Earth days! On this piece metallic and iridescent paints mixed with neon yellow, red and green. I used cellophane to create a crinkled other worldly fissured look.
