Hello, I'm Crocifissa.
I believe the creative process is synonymous with music. For this reason, the art balances to each paint stroke, line, color and dimension of the piece. While studying and living in Florence Italy, I experienced a tremendous growth and freedom within my art process. I had also discovered a clearer appreciation for the aesthetics of art along with a new discovery in my process. With this experience I also found the true meaning of self-expression and freedom each artist must possess. Going back to college at the age of 40 and being a non-traditional student, I had to acclimate to my surroundings and rediscover who I was as an artist and woman. During undergraduate studies I had the opportunity to study abroad, I was accompanied by my two teenagers, who lived with me in Florence Italy while I studied at SACI Art & Design College. During my graduate studies at Kendal School of Art and Design, my mother who had battled brain tumors came to live with me. I continued my studies as I had also become a caregiver for her. In December of 2013 my mother passed .. . As a result my art became my primary focus, I processed the emotions through my work , the aesthetics became more raw… the dynamic of this experience embodied the pieces which now become sculptural. .my thesis show was triad of " Abjection, Embodiment, and Limiality". Through the pain of an experience, evokes an inner voice. I consider as an artist it is possible to create art works in order to sustain the perception of reality through abstract expressionism. I hope the first impression to be a preconception based on female gender in most of my images. In my other works I want to express clarity in contained chaos . My female works are an imagery which represents embodiment. "flesh is a temporary tent which holds our spirit and soul." My work also searches my identity as a woman and individuality which I thrive for as an artist. Aristotle said : knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom". My creativity manifests through the influences of human beings at the moment of inspiration, simultaneously from my work I continue to allow these manifestations to enrich my creativity. My images are derived from an internal desire to explore truth, and a reflection of how it feels to live in my own skin. My images give a life to many whose stories are untold.
