Hello, I'm Sarojini.
I’m Sofia Defour, but as an artist I go by Sarojini. It’s my second name, named after my grandmother. I am visual artist drawn to feminine energy, beauty and strong colors. Art has always been part of my life. I come from a creative family, with both my mother and grandmother being artists, and while I’ve always been creating, I’ve also spent most of my life expressing myself through another art form, performing in the circus. Painting and performance have grown side by side, and expression, movement and creativity have always been a natural part of who I am. I’m naturally very social, expressive and full of energy, but painting has always been the place where I slow down. It brings out a completely different side of me. Everything becomes quiet, I lose track of time and disappear into my own world, letting intuition take over. Women are at the center of much of my work. I’m inspired by feminine energy, beauty, strength and individuality, and I’m especially drawn to painting women from different cultural backgrounds. I love combining expressive faces with strong colors, geometric shapes, symmetry, decorative patterns and golden details. The eyes are especially important to me. I want them to feel mysterious and alive, almost as if you can see something deeper behind them. I’ve always loved the idea that the eyes are a window to the soul. For me, painting feels like coming home. It’s natural, grounding and deeply personal — a way of bringing something from my inner world into something you can actually see and feel.
