Sediments of Memory (Series) - Fragment II | Scar

Fragment II - Textile Artwork This textile artwork continues my exploration of memory as a terrain shaped by accumulation, erosion, and transformation. A central organic formation moves across the surface, recalling geological fissures, sedimentary deposits, and traces left by the passage of time. Its form suggests a scar: a mark of rupture that remains present as the surrounding material changes. The work is created through wet felting using natural wool fibers alongside reclaimed wool remnants naturally dyed with black tea, black beans, and hibiscus tea. Through water, pressure, movement, and compression, the fibers gradually interlock and transform, allowing the material to influence the final form. The process is slow and tactile, and each layer develops through an exchange between intention and the unpredictable behavior of the fibers. My practice explores texture, irregular forms, and the expressive potential of natural materials. Rather than seeking complete control, I allow the material to retain traces of its own character and response. Imperfection becomes part of the work as a record of movement, pressure, transformation, and time. The surface evokes an imagined landscape in which geological processes and personal memory become intertwined. The scar functions both as a physical trace and as a metaphor for memory: something altered by time, yet still carrying evidence of what came before. Layers accumulate and merge like sediment, creating a terrain where erosion and formation, loss and continuity, coexist. Each work develops through a unique sequence of gestures and material responses that cannot be exactly repeated. Fragment II - Scar exists as a singular fragment - part landscape, part memory, and part record of transformation, suspended between the traces left by the external world and those carried within.
