Vintages of Time transforms fragments of wine history into a lasting sculptural composition. This one-of-a-kind contemporary mixed-media artwork by German artist Nick Voß was handcrafted in Aachen, Germany. The artwork combines smoked oak with approximately 1,400 individually cut slices of reclaimed wine corks. Each fragment retains its own colour, texture and individual markings. Together, they form a rhythmic relief across the wood. At the emotional heart of Vintages of Time lies the memory of days gone by—moments, encounters and experiences that have passed but continue to live within us. The individual cork fragments become carriers of these memories: each preserves traces of its former life, while together they form a new and enduring whole. The natural transitions between the lighter and darker areas of the smoked oak reflect the varying intensity of our memories. Some experiences remain bright, vivid and clear, while others gradually fade and recede into the background. Nevertheless, they remain part of our story. In this way, the sculpture explores time, memory and transformation. Materials once connected to different vintages and special moments are united in a lasting composition. The combination of smoked oak and warm, organic cork creates a tactile, minimalist surface whose appearance changes depending on the light and viewing angle. Original one-of-a-kind artwork.
